Rossetti is known for her differentiating topics of adoration and passing she places into her sonnets, ââ¬ËRememberââ¬â¢ is no special case. It is very clear that Rossetti is conversing with a friend or family member in the sonnet, in all probability a darling. From examining, I have discovered that Rossetti composed this sonnet when she was still enamored with Charles Cayley, and furthermore the way that there is relationship between's her background and her sonnets. Becoming hopelessly enamored with Charles Cayley, canceling their commitment, and distributing loads of sonnets, which at that point turned into her most prominent assortment of work. The battle between the great occasions and the terrible in ââ¬Å"Rememberâ⬠could happen to be an identical representation of a mind-blowing occasions. We can likewise observe that there is a kind of contention among recalling and overlooking for Rossetti in the sonnet. From lines 1-8 of the sonnet she continued rehashing the word ââ¬Ërememberââ¬â¢. Notwithstanding, during lines 9-14, Rossetti continued recommending to the individual that he/she ought to overlook her on the off chance that it got him/her negative sentiments. So there is a type of fight going on among recollecting and overlooking all through the sonnet. The sonnet is additionally set up with the rhyme plan of ABBAABBAAB. It is set up in light of the fact that it makes a requesting impact for the solicitations and proposals Rossetti makes in the sonnet. Generally, I feel that ââ¬ËRememberââ¬â¢ is a cynical sonnet as Rossetti is indicating that she could pass on quickly. The truth be that as it may, was that she didn't kick the bucket until 32 years after she composed the sonnet. ââ¬ËRefugee Mother and Childââ¬â¢: This is another excellent yet pitiful sonnet. It is composed by Chinua Achebe, who is an author, teacher, artist and a pundit. His mom was conceived in an evacuee camp. During her time in the camp, she drew an of a mother grasping her withering child once and for all, this image depicts the certainty and the torment engaged with the passings of friends and family. This sonnet is in all probability in commitment to Achebeââ¬â¢s mother. The sonnet is about a mother, spending the last couple of seconds with her perishing child, brushing his rust-shaded hair in a spot with the quality of malady and ailment. From some concentrated research, I discovered that the kid in the sonnet is experiencing a malady called ââ¬Å"Kwashiorkorâ⬠, which is protein lack. Exile Mother and Childâ⬠additionally portends the passing of the youngster, this is demonstrated when on the third and the last line of the sonnet. It is portrays the desolation of a mother watching her kid bite the dust, a few people may contrast this scene with Holy Mother Mary and Jesus, when Jesus was gradually kicking the bucket on the cross. Achebe is part Christian and could have purposefully connected the sonnet and the things in the good book. There is additionally something that is marginally dubious in the sonnet. The way that ââ¬Å"Most mother there had since a long time ago stopped to careâ⬠, causes us to feel that the moms are being ghastly, egotistical and coldhearted for not thinking about their youngsters biting the dust. On the other hand, the way toward viewing a cherished kid bite the dust in their arms could have happened so often that they became accustomed to it. However, I for one feel that it isn't right to just not give it a second thought. With everything taken into account it is an excellent sonnet which has contacted my heart and to the individuals who Iââ¬â¢ve demonstrated it to in my family, it unobtrusively portrays the torment of losing a friend or family member and it brings back miserable and stunning recollections. How they have been fruitful? ââ¬ËRememberââ¬â¢ (by Christina Rossetti) and ââ¬ËRefugee Mother and Childââ¬â¢ (by Chinua Achebe) are the two sonnets which depict individuals moving toward death. This paper will clarify how every writer has been fruitful recorded as a hard copy about death. Both the artists give the feeling that demise is something oddly quiet, there are no notices of fierce things occurring. The sonnets likewise recommend that passing is sure to happen to everybody. Furthermore, the writers talk about death in the sonnets as though it were fast approaching, an occasion that will make a huge difference. In ââ¬ËRememberââ¬â¢ passing is depicted as the motivation behind why Rossetti and the individual she is alluding to in the sonnet are isolated. It is introduced as something that the writer wouldn't like to occur, to leave the individual she cherishes. From her proposals in the sonnet and her activity, it is clear that the genuinely adored whoever this sonnet is for. ââ¬ËRefugee Mother and Childââ¬â¢ presents passing as a crawling shadow, step by step bringing the youngster into its grip. This sonnet doesn't reveal to us that the youngster is dead, just that he is frightfully sick and nearly dying. Demise has become something that will happen to the kid, and as of now, it is frequenting the mother like an apparition. At last, the Sphinx gives I dipus her human stays to take as proof of his prosperity, and in this way encourages him on his way towards his grievous end. Had I dipus been increasingly touchy, she may have cautioned him of the mix-up he was making, yet he was too vain to even consider thanking her, driving her to support him on his course to implosion, Vous raminerez mama di pouille I Thi bes et lavenir vous ri compensera selon vos mi rituals. Up until this point, Fate had been the main thrust behind the occasions which include occurred inside the most recent seventeen years. We presently arrive at the circumstance which has been set up and created throughout the years to raise idipus to a status from which it would be please the Gods for him to tumble from. It is chance that Polybe kicked the bucket as of now, after Jocaste and I dipus have created four kids, yet during this scene, I accept that I dipus is answerable for the divulging of how he has satisfied his destiny splendidly. One may contend that in communicating euphoria at the passing of somebody whom he accepted to be his characteristic dad, he is rebuffed by the disclosure of his appropriation, vous ni tiez que child fils adoptif. As Tiresias calls attention to, idipus likes to know it all, and as he pushes the dispatcher for more data, it is he himself who is liable for the result of this scene, and the play when all is said in done, jinterrogerai sans crainte. However, I dipus can't be supposed to be fair now, as he dishonestly accuses Tiresias of having constrained him to concede his wrongdoing, vous mavez poussi I critical que ji tais un professional killer . Human duty turns out to be increasingly apparent when it is uncovered how both Jocaste and I dipus misled one another, Mon histoire de chassefausse come tant dautres, Jocaste a di mettre child wrongdoing sur le compte ridge de ses servantes. Now, Jocaste is tormented by that which she has overlooked or been unconscious of all through her marriage, and I dipus is correspondingly ridiculous, cest fini before blinding himself. Jocaste and I dipus have shown indistinguishable character characteristics from they attempt to outmaneuver the Gods, by fleeing from or surrendering what interfaces them to the destiny which has been prophesised. Their naivety is shown at various focuses all through, and in idipus case, the words are even said to him, Une femme qui pourrait etre votre mi re! , making his obliviousness lamentable, if not comedic. Human duty is the last factor which assumes a significant job in this play, yet Fate is in my opnion, the most significant of all as it is the destiny chosen by the Gods which was the beginning stage of the catastrophe. Chance has a generally little part to play, as despite the fact that it chose the subtleties, for example, how I dipus slaughters Laius, and the manner by which Jocaste and I dipus discover they have submitted interbreeding, their destiny and in this way the result of the play, continues as before. Before around the 1980ââ¬â¢s though, the evidence that was gathered on mental illnesses was too inconsistent to be credible. In a survey conducted by the World Health Organizationââ¬â¢s department of World Mental Health, data was gathered on the prevalence of mental health disorders in 14 countries around the world. The results of these surveys conclude that mental health disorders are more prevalent than any other chronic illness. The author of the article ââ¬Å"Prevalence, Severity, and Unmet Need for Treatment of Mental Health Disorders in the World Health Organization World Mental Health Surveysâ⬠, named Koen Demyttenaere, makes the argument that the effects of these disorders could be lessened or cured with adequate treatment. In his article, he makes the points that mild mental illnesses that go untreated can turn into more serious probl ems, mental illnesses have a greater effect on role-functioning than many physical chronic illnesses, and that treatment resources should be reallocated to help combat mental health problems. So the main theme is that there is not sufficient treatment for mental health disorders that should be treated. In the beginning of the play, Macbeth meets the three witches and hears about his prophecy from them which he will become the next King of Scotland. These witches are important characters to develop the story. We will write a custom essay sample on The Purposes of the Three Witches in Macbeth or any similar topic only for you Order Now Every time when Macbeth needed them, he received prophecies from them. These prophecies affect Macbeth and reveal his evil personality. As revealed in the play, the purposes of the three witches in the play are to foreshadow, advance the plot, and show the human weakness. One of the purposes of the witches in the play is to set allusions. In the beginning of act one scene one, the three witches plan? to meet at the open field to see Macbeth after the battle is over. As they promised, they wait for Macbeth and Banquo to return from the battlefield. When they faced each other, the third witch said, ââ¬Å"All hail, Macbeth, that shalt be king hereafterâ⬠(Macbeth 1. 3. 51) to Macbeth. Then the first witch tells Banquo that, ââ¬Å"Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none/ So all hail, Macbeth and Banquo! â⬠(Macbeth 1. 3. 8-69), which she meant that Banquo will become the father of the kings. Later in the story, Macbeth seeks for the three witches to hear more about his future. They told him that ââ¬Å"Be bloody, bold, and resolute. Laugh to scorn/ The power of man, for none of woman born/ Shall harm Macbeth. â⬠(Macbeth 4. 1 81-83). These prophecies eventually become true. There are no doubts that the tree witches allure the story by tell ing the futures. The weird witches not only foreshadow but also advance the story. The story mainly develops by the prophecies. After Macbeth hears about his future from the witches, he writes a letter to Lady Macbeth, his wife, about the prophecy. Since Lady Macbeth had no doubt about this prophecy of Macbeth becoming the king, she plans to assassinate the King Duncan to fulfill the prophecy. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth put their plan into action. Successfully, Macbeth killed the king and put false charge on Malcolm and Donalbain for assassinating the king to become sovereign. As a result, Macbeth took the next throne of the Scotland. While he rules Scotland with insanity, Malcolm seeks for revenge and makes an army to fight against Macbeth. With a growing fear in Macbethââ¬â¢s heart, he goes to find the three witches again to receive another prophecy. He gets told that no men who came through a womanââ¬â¢s womb could harm him. He scoffs and eases his fear of death. However towards the end of the play, he faces death by Macduff, who was delivered by cesarean section. By giving prophecies, the witches indirectly affect the play to create tensions. The play of Macbeth clearly showed the human weakness. The witches did not force Macbeth to kill the king or to commit any crimes. Macbeth was a loyal general of King Duncan along with Banquo. However, after he hears the words from the three weird sisters, he had a conversation with Banquo about what they heard and he says, ââ¬Å"My thought, whose murder yet is but fantastical,/ Shakes so my single state of man/ That function is smothered in surmise,/ And nothing is but what is notâ⬠(Macbeth 1. . 142- 145). From this conversation, his personality was revealed which he is a man who would not kill the king to attain his ambition. However, Macbeth eventually gets affected by the prophecy that he shows his ambitions toward the kingship and his evil personality. His influenced aspect is clearly shown when the second witch notes, that ââ¬Å"By the pricking of my thumbs,/ something wicked this way comesâ⬠(Macbeth 4. 1. 44-45). From this quote, it shows that Macbethââ¬â¢s pe rsonality became evil. The purposes of the witches are not only to develop the story but also to show that people are easily influenced. The weird sisters, the three witches, in the play do not advent often but have essential roles. They give prophecy to Macbeth which creates ambition in his heart. Socrates uses this as a way to comfort his friends. Based on this, according to Socrates, if a human being can learn anything, they must have known something about what it is they are learning about. If a human being has known something without having been taught it (in this life), they must have learned it before their birth. If the soul existed prior to birth it stands to reason that it survives death, and thus Socrates' friends have no cause for grief. This prior knowledge is triggered into consciousness by sensory input. Plato is trying to work beyond a two-fold paradox. Namely, if a human being does not know something, they cannot learn it since they know nothing about it. If, on the other hand, a person knows it, they do not need to learn it. When Crito asks Socrates how he wishes to be buried when he dies, this is a mistake because it shows his lack of understanding. Crito's lack of understanding lies in the fact the he doesn't understand how the soul survives the body at death, and in fact Socrates will still in actuality be alive. By making this mistake, according to Socrates, he Crito is harming the soul. If Crito were in understanding of this, he would not have asked Socrates about burying his body, because Socrates is not merely a body, but rather the body is a casing for the spirit and who he is. Socrates does not take Crito's question seriously because to Socrates the body is not the basis of who he is. To Socrates, the fact that his body is going to die does not mean he will be dead. In fact, his soul will go on, be born in a different body, and go back to learning what the soul seeks to know. Socrates wants Crito to know that he will not be burying him, but instead just his body. Socrates is justified in his response to Crito's question because Crito's question goes against everything that Socrates says and stands for. I think that Socrates is upset with Crito for being so ignorant. He shows this by laughing at Crito for his question. He also shows this by telling the others that Crito only sees him as the body he will be burying, rather that the person talking to them. When it came time for Socrates to drink the poison, Crito again shows his lack of understanding by asking Socrates to wait awhile before taking it. Crito wants Socrates to try and enjoy the last bit of life that he can enjoy. Socrates again puts Crito in his place by saying that any human being would do this, but it is not right for Socrates. Socrates does not want to appear ridiculous for clinging to life when there is none left. Overall Socrates is trying to tell human beings that life is nothing more than an opportunity for the soul to learn what it is in search for. The human body is nothing more than an instrument for the soul to use. A person should not fear or run from death, but rather look at it as a chance for the soul to move on to something else and to another chance to learn more based on what was already learned Leonel Lloydhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17742254464683503783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669214112273126788.post-16285960853142213482020-03-19T11:35:00.001-07:002020-03-19T11:35:02.670-07:00Adolf Hitler Essays (1891 words) - Hitler Family, AntisemitismAdolf Hitler Essays (1891 words) - Hitler Family, Antisemitism Adolf Hitler For the past week I have been researching three men, Joseph Stalin, Mao, and Adolf Hitler for an answer to a question; who is the most evil? Which, means that I had to think about what exactly was evil for me. Now the dictionary they have a simple definition for it, which is: morally reprehensible, sinful, wicked. But there could be so many different meanings, because there are many different people in the world. So, these three men were judged on my definition of evil. Evil to me is someone who consciously knows what there doing but still doesnt care, someone who purposely tries to cause destruction on other people, one who possibly thinks that they are somewhat of a messiah, and someone who manipulates people, especially children, into thinking that what they believe is what they are suppose to believe in a fight for. And after many articles, papers, direct quotes, and book scanning, I have come up with my answer. After getting into his mind, reading his thoughts, and listening to his speeches, I have to say Adolf Hitler. Killing people in it is evil but his manipulation, power, and demented thoughts, he acted on, terrified me. This man appalls me. Everything he represents and started repulses me. When I look at pictures of him I know in my heart that what I am looking at is pure evil, and thats why I know it is him that I am going to write about. Adolf Hitler was born at 6:30 p.m. on the evening of April 20, 1889; he was born in the small Austrian village of Braunau Am Inn just across the border from German Bavaria. His father was Alois Hiedler, who earlier changed his name to Hitler, and was a retired from the Austrian civil service by the time Adolf was 6. Alois was used to giving orders and having the obeyed and also expected this from his children. Adolfs older brother was badly beaten by their father and by thirteen ran away, leaving Adolf to get the physical and mental abuse at the age of only 7. One day, Hitler went rummaging through his fathers book collection and came across several of a military nature, including a picture book on the War of 1870-1871 between the Germans and the French. By Hitlers own account this book became an obsession. He read it over and over, becoming convinced it had been a glorious event. It was not long before the great historic struggle had become my greatest spiritual experience. From then on, I became more and more enthusiastic about everything that was in any way connected with the war or, for that matter, with soldering. Hitler stated in his book Mein Kampf. At age 21 Adolf Hitler was homeless in Vienna and somewhat of an artists. Even before he came to Vienna, Hitler had a personality notable for its lack of empathy. Many historians have concluded Hitler suffered psychological distress partly brought on by an unhappy childhood notably his relationship with his father, a domineering, at times cruel man. In Vienna, and later, Hitler suffered bouts of depression. Other times he experienced extreme highs, only to by followed by a drop back into the depths. One consistent personality trait was the hysteria evident whenever someone displeased him. Hitlers personality has been described as basically hysterical in nature. This is where Hitler started to get thoughts about Jewish people. Hitler describes the transformation in his thinking regarding the Jews, as to begin with a chance meeting. Once, as I was strolling through the inner city, I suddenly encountered an apparition in a black caftan and black hair locks. Is this a Jew? Was my first thought. For, to be sure, they had not looked like that in Linz. I observed the man furtively and cautiously, but the longer I stared at this foreign face, scrutinizing feature for feature, the more my first question assumed a new for: is this a German? -Adolf Hitler, Mein Kampf. To answer his own question, he immersed himself in anti-Semitic literature. Then he went out and studied Jews as they passed by. The more I saw, the more sharply they became distinguished in my eyes from the Leonel Lloydhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17742254464683503783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669214112273126788.post-5826198396977981682020-03-03T03:21:00.001-08:002020-03-03T03:21:03.981-08:0035 Genres and Other Varieties of Fiction35 Genres and Other Varieties of Fiction 35 Genres and Other Varieties of Fiction 35 Genres and Other Varieties of Fiction By Mark Nichol A previous post detailed synonyms for story. It started with frontline supervision and rose to command with many daring rescues. The team leadership I provided with the support and trust of my unit led to effective decisions in a hard and demanding environment. I started as an active firefighter in 1983 where I held the ranks of lieutenant and captain by the year 1989. In 1989, my administrative duties began after my election as the departmental third assistant chief by my colleagues. By the year 1989 to 1991 I had risen to the first assistant chief of the department, it was, therefore, a pleasant surprise when in 1992, my colleagues saw me as best suited for the position of fire chief. I held this position for four years before serving as the vice president and fire ground safety officer to the fire company between 1996 and 2009 (Randy 56). In 2010, I became president to the fire company, this company which is the C.E.O for the fire organization. Its responsibilities were to offer detailed plans, procedures, and standards for implementation at a volunteer fire department serving a unique population comprised of large and small businesses, single-family homes, high buildings, and municipal facilities. My duties as president were to offer expert technical knowledge, to train and safely lead approximately 50 volunteer firefighters and engage in controlling and extinguishing fires to protect property. I also aided in rescuing people endangered by fire, reducing and trying to eliminate potential fire hazards, controlling hazardous materials incidents, coordinating emergency medical services, training volunteers in fire protection and prevention, operating and maintaining fire communications equipment, and advising on improvements to structures for better fire prevention. Hence, the interviewer becomes, essentially, a positive change agent for the client (Miller, Yahne and Tonigan 2003). Individuals, within a social context, that have maladaptive or unhealthy behaviours detract from the development of a cohesive and well-functioning community. This is why enacting long-term behaviour change and improving socio-psychological adjustment is so critical, as deviant behaviours, anti-social attitude, or other negative behaviours can pose risk or danger to a broader community population. In an idealistic society, the goal is to ensure that all society members within a community have an attitude that promotes teamwork, alliance and partnership, though this is not a tangible reality in many societies throughout the world. This essay explores the processes of motivational interviewing and its potential benefits or contributions to achieving social change and developing positive communities with an emphasis on how MI is properly facilitated to achieve these desirable and encouraging advantages. The main premise of MI is to maintain a non-adversarial attitude with the client, be completely without confrontational stance and illustrate complete non-judgmental behaviours (Miller and Rollnick 2002). The premise of MI is to break-down the barriers which are driving client uncertainty and ambivalence that allow for continuation of unhealthy or maladapted behaviours. In motivational interviewing, the mentor serves as a resource for assisting the client in resolving the factors that drive ambivalence without being directly persuasive. The interviewer serves only as a director that facilitates discussion about what is revealed within the clientââ¬â¢s inner world and provides therapeutic discourse to nurture the clientââ¬â¢s Leonel Lloydhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17742254464683503783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669214112273126788.post-59882211918358256282020-01-25T08:08:00.001-08:002020-01-25T08:08:04.108-08:00Different Brains, Different Realities? In my mind, America is a land of good-hearted people, a nation of citizens who have more to unite them than to divide them, a country held together by a belief in freedom and opportunity for all. Although America is so good a country, you could never call it utopia, there are also a lot of peoblems with American society today. Following I will pick up three significant problems with American society to make a discussion. First of all is women issues. Do you believe women are treated equally in America? My answer is no. It seems as though we have made so many strides in our history, but discrimination never seems to go away. Women are seen as to emotional for things,in this day and age we are seen weak because we have children and hearts and we not only judge mentally but with our hearts. I believe there is sexism in the States. Maybe women are treated equally under the law. But in the long run, itââ¬â¢s not the law that counts, itââ¬â¢s peopleââ¬â¢s attitudes, and those have a long way to go. There are alot of men who see women should still be home barefoot, cooking and cleaning and raising the children. So I think there is a lot of sexism in the united states. The second issue I want to talk about is unequal distribution of wealth. Privatization is increasing in America, which provides opportunities only to those who can afford. Due to this, rich people are becoming richer and poor becoming poor. From the report, it is shocking but true. Around 13-17% American population lives below the federal poverty line. The US government does not have an absolute definition for poverty, but it describes the same phenomenon as relative poverty, that is, how income relates to median income. The number of people living under poverty line is increasing at an alarming rate. So I think the government of the United States should think about how to fix Americaââ¬â¢s wealth inequalities. Last but not the less important, I want to say that the increasing cost of living is also a big problem in the USAââ¬â¢s society. With growing inflation, the cost of living in America is also increasing significantly. But, the minimum wage is not increasing in the same fashion, and so, many people find it difficult to fulfill their daily basic requirements. The working population makes more money and again spends more on living, which hardly leaves anything behind for savings. America has the lowest saving rate compared to any other developed nation. We could neverà deny that the United States is a powerful country in the world today. There are many other specific socio-economic and cultural problems except the three issues above that America is faced with. In order to maintain the position of power and prestige. The American government needs to come up with stringent policies to solve the aforementioned problems. With the stock market at an all-time high, with data trends of unemployment trending down from 5.4 percent in April, 5.5 percent in May and now at an all-time low of 5.3 percent in July (U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015). Last quarter economic growth was at 5 percent, relative mild consumer price-inflation, and the bonanza of cheap gas, there is increased optimism about the U.S. economy (Chafuen, A, 2015). Yet most of America is still concerned about unemployment, inflation and recession. Per CNN, only 42% of Americanââ¬â¢s thought the economy was in good shape. That is not even half of America but the numbers are the best they have been inâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The effects include an increase in the money supply, lower interest rates and a rise in overall aggregate demand (AboutNews, n,d,). This would boost growth as measured by Gross Domestic Product as well . As stated above the current economic situation is one that looks like it could be a very strong year. The U.S. announced strong third-quarter Gross Domestic Product growth of 3.9%. The unemployment rate is at an all-time low of 5.3 percent. Inflation has decreased as well to 1.8 percent. Even though with half of America believing the economy is in bad shape. We are not in a recession. A recession is technically defined as two straight quarters of a declining Gross Domestic Product, and this is not the case. An appropriate fiscal policy that could be used to make the economy even stronger would be an expansionary fiscal policy, even though the economy is not in a recession. This fiscal policy results in increased government spending and/or lower taxes. In order to close this gap, the government will typically increase their spending which will directly increase the aggregate demand curve, since government spending creates demand for goods and services. At the same time, the government may choose to cut taxes, which will indirectly affect the aggregate demand curve by allowing for consumers to have more money at their disposal to consume and invest. Government spending has increased contributing to economic Leonel Lloydhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17742254464683503783noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1669214112273126788.post-34953131657714596262019-12-31T21:19:00.001-08:002019-12-31T21:19:03.059-08:00The Involvements Of Clean And Renewable Energy Development... The gender analysis shows that ââ¬Å"energy povertyâ⬠is a gender biased poverty because poor women suffers much for electricity and modern energy services. In rural area, people depend on inherent traditional energy sources like wood, straw, kerosene and cow ââ¬âdung for cooking and indoor lightening which are very inefficient and unhealthy especially for women and children remaining at home who are frequently exposed to air pollution due to this. Now it is a new challenge to replace these unhealthy energy sources with environment friendly energy sources. The objective of this paper is to co-relate the gender equality and clean source of energy i.e. renewable energy. This paper concludes that though there is no pure technological solution achieving gender equality and womenââ¬â¢s empowerment, in the light of the social context of rural Bangladesh where women are discrimina ted can have full access to clean energy source and modern technology which willShow MoreRelatedIkea at a Glance26682 Words à |à 107 Pages59 62 63 66 68 70 71 SUPPLIERS COdE Of CONdUCT IwAy CHILd LAbOUR HOmE fURNISHING SUPPLIERS fOOd SUPPLIERS CATALOGUE SUPPLIERS TRANSPORT SERvICE PROvIdERS 13 15 16 17 23 25 27 fORESTRy COTTON wATER CLImATE TRANSPORT Of PROdUCTS IKEA bUILdINGS ENERGy USE AT SUPPLIERS TRANSPORT Of PEOPLE CO-wORKERS wHEN THEy GROw, IKEA GROwS 31 mETRICS KPIS CROSS REfERENCE TAbLE 72 74 CUSTOmERS PROdUCT SAfETy fOOd SAfETy CUSTOmER ENGAGEmENT 36 38 40 ABOUT THIS REPORT This report describes the sustainabilityRead MoreOne Significant Change That Has Occurred in the World Between 1900 and 2005. However, they are the same, and both are morally wrong, but for different reasons. Racial profiling is morally wrong because in most situations, it is usually used by law enforcement in apprehending a criminal. However, it usually targets someone because of their race. It is also morally wrong because it usually used under the pretense that it is trying to increase safety. Affirmative action is used under the pretense to provide more opportunities for races that are seen as under - represented in certain environments. However, it is morally wrong because it is instead seen as certain races not being able to attain those opportunities without assistance from others. Other reasons that it is morally wrong is because while the main goal is to encourage mor e equality for everyone, it fails to dispel the stereotypes that some people still might have about minorities and it might negatively affect others that are more qualified for opportunities that are trying to increase diversity instead of trying to find the most qualified people. Racial profiling is usually seen as a way to increase safety. However, this is not always the case; in most cases it promotes negative thoughts about the race being targeted. To what extent Is this true in Hong Kong? You should give both the advantages and disadvantages of Hong Kongââ¬â¢s tourist industry but your essay should support one side only. Tourism is travel for recreational, leisure or business purposes. We will write a custom essay sample on Tourism has often been criticised for damaging the environment and undermining local cultures or any similar topic only for you Order Now It has become a popular global leisure activity, which is of vital importance for many countries, due to large intake of money for businesses with their goods and services and the opportunities for employment in the service industries. This rapid expanding industry shows both positive and negative effects. Hong Kong is an attractive and vibrant city that worth touristsââ¬â¢ travelling as we can see many tourists in some tourist spots every day, for instance, Central, Causeway Bay, Tsim Sha Tsui, Mong Kok and so on. However, tourism in Hong Kong has long been criticised for damaging the environment and undermining local cultures. First and foremost, tourism can promote job opportunities. A good example is the operation of the Hong Kong Disneyland. It attracts more fresh graduates and young adults to find jobs and work there, and hence increase employment rate of Hong Kong. Undeniably, under the background of rising job opportunities, tourism can stimulate economic growth. As more and more tourists around the globe visit Hong Kong, this increases foreign exchange earnings and boost sales of shops. To cater for touristsââ¬â¢ needs, there will be improvement of facilities or infrastructure such as roads, buildings, airports and communication systems, which may be improved to meet growing demands. Although tourism can bring us benefits, its drawbacks cannot be disregarded. Tourism may damage traditional culture. Tourists visit to Hong Kong will focus more their attention on shopping than seeing some popular tourist spots related to traditional cultures. Although economic growth is stimulated, Hong Kong will soon become a consumer society. Tourism could cause pollution. The non-biodegradable rubbish left behind by many tourists often ends up being dumped into landfills, rivers and the sea. Furthermore, young people will grow up in a deteriorating environment and be affected by what they see tourists do and then follow their behaviours such as drunkenness, drug abuse and gambling. In some serious cases of crimes, the relationship between two countries may be worsen because of the records of criminals. In my view, tourism has often been criticised for damaging the environment and undermining local cultures. When you walk on the streets and beaches, you can see a lot of waste and litter on the ground, even though local citizens throw some of them on the floor. Moreover, the reason why tourism undermines local cultures is tourists enjoy material comfort more than spiritual satisfaction. They realize that there are lots of cheap goods in Hong Kong and then rush into the shops and buy whatever they can without consideration. This forms a consumer culture. When they find something they have bought is useless, they will throw them away immediately. This definitely damages the environment and becomes a vicious cycle as time goes by. To remedy the problem, the local government should implement some effective measures to make tourist industry more traditional and environmentally-friendly, for example, holding more traditional activities so as to attract tourists and let them know more about local culture. Education of tourists to be a responsible person in their home countries is extremely important. Although different countries have different rules and laws, ââ¬ËWhen in Rome, do as Roman doââ¬â¢, tourists should strictly follow the rules when they are traveling to Hong Kong or even other places. If they do not obey the law, they would receive heavy penalty and even imprisonment, no matter they are tourists who visit Hong Kong. Answers: 1.Issue Whether Mark is liable under the tort of negligence, or not? Rule Negligence, can be best defined as, the non-fulfillment or the contravention of the duty of care, which part A owed to party B, for undertaking some activity, which had the possibility of resulting in harm, and does in fact, results in an injury or harm to party B, owing to breach of duty of party A, in a significant manner[1]. For establishing the presence of a negligence case, it is crucial to show that there had been a presence of duty of care, which was breached, and which resulted in major injuries, along with the features of direct causation, foreseeability and the losses to not be too remote[2]. In Donoghue v Stevenson[3], the judges held that by being the manufacturer of the ginger beer bottle, the contamination of which could have resulted in the sickness of the consumer, made the manufacturer liable for any such sickness caused to the consumer. This was due to the proximity and the relationship between the consumer and the manufacturer. In the matter of Paris v Stepney Borough Council[4], the failure of the Council in providing the adequate protective gear to plaintiff resulted in the court holding a case of negligence against the Council and the Council was ordered to compensate the plaintiff. The remedies in cases of negligence are in form of damages, for the loss which is incurred by the party who received injury[5]. Though, it is crucial that the damages are not too remote, or else the damages are not awarded to the claimant, as was seen in the case of Overseas Tankship (UK) Ltd v Morts Dock and Engineering Co Ltd[6]. For the remedies to be awarded, it is crucial to show that the harm was foreseeable. In case this cannot be done, the relief is not awarded by the court, as was seen in Bolton v. Stone[7]. In order to decide upon what is foreseeable and what is not, the view of an unbiased reasonable individual has to be taken into account and this requirement was laid down by the judges in the matter of Wyong Shire Council v. Shirt[8]. There is a need for the injury to occur, as a direct result of the negligence, for a claim to be successful[9]. Application In the given case study, Mark was building a wall, and due to undertaking this activity, it was his duty to take care that no one was harmed due to his actions. So, anyone who was in his proximity and who could be harmed due to his actions was owed a duty by Mark on the basis of the case of Donoghue v Stevenson. Further, Mark failed to cover the excavation site, even when it was very dark and about to rain. This raised the chances of a person being injured due to excavation owing to the lack of visibility. As in Paris v Stepney Borough Council, the Council did not provide the safety gear and was held liable, in the same manner Mark would be liable for not securing the site, which made the chances of a person being injured. With the run, a pile of stones and dirt from the excavation of Mark collapsed on the street, which shows failure in fulfillment of taking care on part of Mark. Hence, he would be liable for negligence. Thomas Thomas would not be awarded any damages as the injury was very minor and for a claim of negligence to be successful, the injuries cannot be remote as was seen in Overseas Tankship (UK) Ltd v Morts Dock and Engineering Co Ltd. Fatima Owing to the requirement of injury being a direct result of seeing his son bleeding and not as a direct result of the negligence of Mark, Fatima cannot claim damages from Mark. Based on Bolton v. Stone, Mark could not have foreseen that Fatima would suffer this loss. Tony Tony broke his arm due to the negligence of Mark and this gives him the ability to make a successful claim against Mark for negligence. And on this claim, he would be able to obtain relief in form of damages being awarded to him. Jack Based on the same principle as that applied in the case of Fatima, even the claims of Jack would fail, as there was no direct causation between the negligence of Mark and the injury of Jack. This is due to the fact that Thomas and Tony were injured when the pile collapsed on street. They did not deliberately go near the pile, which was done by Jack, for helping Tony. A prudent person could not have foreseen that if Jack helped Tony, he would have been injured and so, on the basis of Wyong Shire Council v. Shirt, Mark cannot be held liable. Conclusion On the basis of above discussion, it can be concluded that only Tony would be successful in getting damages as remedies for the negligence of Mark and the claims of Thomas, Fatima and Jack would fail. 2.Issue Whether the parties affected by the five year ban, can initiate legal action for the economic loss suffered by them, against Lipton Pty Ltd, or not? Rule The economic loss which is suffered by an individual, owing to the negligence of another, is deemed as negligence pure economic loss. In such cases, the loss is not in physical but in economic form[10]. In the case of Caltex Oil v The Dredge "Willemstadt"[11], while the defendant was dredging, the pipeline was damaged. The plaintiff used this pipeline and owing to its damage, the oil could no longer be transferred by him. And so, an action for economic loss was brought. In this case, the court held that as the defendant could foresee this loss, the plaintiff had to be allowed to recover the loss. In the case of Perre v Apand[12], the plaintiff had a contract to sell potatoes in Western Australia. Owing to the supply of bad products by the defendant, the land was infect, which belonged to the neighbor of the plaintiff. Owing to the proximity to the infected land, the potatoes of the plaintiff could not be sold based on regulations of Western Australia. And hence, a claim was brought for the economic loss of the plaintiff. The court held that the claims of the plaintiff had to be allowed owing to the foreseeability of loss. Further, the liability of the defendant was made for all such farms, which were in the radius of twenty kilometers. However, in the case of negligence pure economic loss, the defendants have the option of relying upon the general principle, based on which the losses based purely on economic nature, cannot be recovered owing to the applicability of a no-recovery rule. So, even if the negligence can be established without a doubt, the claim is not successful in such cases[13]. Rylands v Fletcher[14] is a leading case in this matter. In this case, the water from the defendants reservoir passed over the working mine of the plaintiff, as a result of which the mine was heavily damaged. And yet, the court stated that the defendant could be made accountable only for the wrong usage of land and not for the pure economic losss recovery. Similar ruling was given in the matter of Weller v Foot and Mouth Disease Research Institute[15], in which the plaintiffs cattle was infected owing to the virus which had escaped from the defendants premises. In this case also, the no-recovery rule was applied and the plaintiff was not awarded any damages. Application In this case, Liptons experimental batch resulted in the land of those in a twenty km radius being infected. As this batch was experimental, there were high chances of the same giving negative results. By still giving these seeds, Lipton was negligent. So, owing to the foreseeability of such loss, on the basis of Caltex Oil v The Dredge "Willemstadt" would be liable. The facts given in the case study are quite similar to that of Perre v Apand. And on the basis of this case, Lipton would be liable to all such individual who were affected in the radius of twenty kilometers. However, Lipton can cite the defense of no-recovery rule given in the case of Rylands v Fletcher and later in Weller v Foot and Mouth Disease Research Institute. Though, owing to the similar facts of this case study and the case of Perre v Apand, this defense would fail. Conclusion On the basis of above discussion, it can be concluded that Lipton would be liable for the negligence and would have to pay damages to all such individual who were affected in the radius of twenty kilometers for the pure economic loss suffered by them. The United States Government made the decision to drop an atomic bomb over Hiroshima and Nagasaki, totally destroying both cities. The use of one atomic bomb was necessary in Japan. The second was unnecessary and inappropriate. The right decision had been made to drop the first bomb. The use of the bomb on Hiroshima might have actually saved lives for both the United States and Japan in the long run. By using it, the Americans were saved from having to make a land invasion on the Japanese main island, and thus saving an estimated one million lives. Also, according to previous invasions of other islands in the South Pacific, the Japanese would have lost two people for every on American lost. The result might have been two million or more Japanese dead. The Japanese made the decision to try and overtake the worlds largest superpower, and they had to face the consequences in one form or another. The use of the second bomb over Nagasaki was not needed. This is the so called lower social class. Usually in this class we can find people with very low education who live in the suburbs with no property of their own. In some cases people may become poor because they lose everything on gambling or they have drinking problems or they are addicted to drugs. But these are special cases. In most cases, the poverty passes on to the next generation in the same family. It seems like a magic circle. They were brought up in poverty so they had to start working as soon as possible to earn some money on their own. And these young people had to quit studying after the elementary level even if they very talented because nobody could provide for them. Then they have children with the aim to have some more helping hands at home. And these children are going to have the same life as their parents. Because they do not have time and possibility to achieve any new knowledge, most often they just cannot come up with any new ideas in order to improve their life. We can usually observe the process I have just described in the developed countries where we can see bigger and bigger differences between the rich and the poor every day. And obviously the higher class is taking advantage of the poorest people and furthermore it is doing everything to keep it that way. We have other countries that are fighting the poverty due to political or even geographical reasons. Like Somalia, which has been suffering from poverty for years. First it was because of the long war period and after that because they live in the middle of nothing where it is difficult to grow any plant as they basically have no water. And the population is young, with no medical assistance and no educational system. They do not know how to produce food and how to develop their country. And this scenario is common to many other countries as well. The developed world should take care of them. But not just by sending them supplies but also by teaching them how to make it on their own. At this point, it is necessary to stress that fragmentation of the issues brings them to the fore and the technique of ââ¬Å"rapid cutting to reinforce the sometimes extreme actionâ⬠exploited by filmmakers makes the viewer pay close attention to these fragments (Booker 2007: 37). People are eager to find the connection between the pieces of the mosaic and focus on the major topics discussed. Thus, consumerism is ââ¬Å"criticised primarily as an ideological force . . . that weakens and domesticates menâ⬠(Giroux & Szeman 2001: 101). Importantly, the trend spreading globally is not regarded as a peculiarity of the society but is presented as a political paradigm lobbied by the rich. According to the narrator and his alter ego, this ideological force is aimed at enslaving people. Tyler draws a line between capitalism and consumerism (which is a result of the former) as both id eologies oppress people and turn them into slaves. Thus, people are enslaved by things and they are forced to have ââ¬Å"everything from IKEAâ⬠they ââ¬Å"could possibly wantâ⬠(Gibson 2004: 183). However, the world of things is opposed to the real world as it is seen by the protagonists. This is a characteristic feature of postmodernism as it is based on opposition to what has been accepted. Tyler emphasises that the world of things is fake and even unreal and this is a postmodern view on reality. Likewise, Featherstone (2007: 6) notes that ââ¬Å"through consumerismâ⬠people are creating ââ¬Å"a destabilized, aestheticized hallucination of realityâ⬠. People are taught to fit into the world of IKEA and strive for more things and this makes them feel uneasy as a human cannot and should not become a part of such an unreal reality. Motivation and resilience are two key factors students need in order to achieve academic success. Students with motivation and resilience perform well in school and have a developed sense of self-efficacy. Successful students can see the connection between school and future goals, and are more likely to perform tasks even when they become difficult (Berger, 2013). This is characterized as resilience. These students are able to achieve academically and will most likely persist to graduation. Students who are not succeeding academically have a higher potential of failing or dropping out of school (Donnelly, 1987). These students are considered at-risk. Characteristics of the at-risk student include: low academic achievement, low self-esteem, males, minority, and low socioeconomic status (Donnelly, 1987). How does family background affect the at-risk student? According to Donnelly, Students who are both low income and minority status are at a higher risk [of failing]; their parents may have low educational backgrounds and may not have high educational expectations for their children (Donnelly, 1987). Berger states, at-risk students are more likely to experience behavior issues, lower attendance rates, poor grades, lack direction, and fail to use self-regulation strategies (Berger, 2013). If students are engaged in school are they less likely to drop-out? Berger (2013) suggested when students are engaged in school and have positive connections they may be able to overcome many of the barriers that exist in order to achieve success while in school and persist until graduation. How does motivation and resilience effect graduation rates? While much work has been done to improve graduation rates over the past eight years, resilience and motivation are two essential characteristics students need in order to persist in school academically. When students experience positive interactions with teachers and other adults, motivation and engagement will increase (Berger, 2013). Students want to see the connection between the task and how it connects to their future. Students need to feel supported in order to be successful; positive connections with parents and teachers are imperative in order for students to succeed. Statement of the Problem At-Risk students are more likely to fail and drop-out of school because they lack motivation and resilience academically. When students leave school before completing requirements, the consequences are dire. Students who leave school early are often left with little options later in life. They more likely to experience lower wages in life, and are less likely to attend college. Should the at-risk student attend college, they are much less likely to complete school compared to their peers, who are 83% more likely to finish (Berger, 2013). When are students mostly likely to fail? According to Finn and Rock (1997), investigating early behavior and academic patterns one may be able predict academic success in later years. Reaching students early is important when confronting barriers. Forming positive connections with caring adults is also necessary for students to build resilience and motivation. The purpose of this study is to investigate counselor intervention programs and the effect of motivation and resilience in at-risk 9th grade students. At-risk is defined as students who are under-achieving academically, have lower attendance rates and who have experienced behavior issues. Will students who have positive attachments to teachers or counselors perform better than students who do not? Statement of the Hypothesis Prior research has shown that positive school experiences and encouraging relationships at school have had a positive effect on at-risk students engagement and motivation (Scheel et al., 2009). Therefore, it is hypothesized if at-risk students are involved in a counseling intervention program then there will be an increase in academic achievement, students will experience less behavior problems, and students will experience an increase of motivation academically. Chopin, born O'Flaherty, wasn't renowned as a writer during her time, but she has achieved recognition in the 20th century especially with her 1899 novel "The Awakening". Her stories about strong women have really been paid attention to in relation to this century's sexual liberation debate. This short-story revolves around what goes through a person's head when informed that a close family member has perished. However, I wouldn't say that this is the theme of the story, which I'll get back to. Louise Mallard is a young, yet married woman who suffers from heart trouble, and that's why her closest relatives feel that they have to break the news to her as gently as possible. Immediately after hearing the shocking news, Louise starts crying, and storms into her room. Since Louise spends the majority of the short-story in her room, this is the setting of the story. Noone really knows early in the story how Louise really feels about her husband dying. But the author certainly gives some evident hints. The fourth paragraph's content, which revolves around the period of time where Louise has just entered her room, is fairly surprising. Everyone would expect Louise to weep with agony and pain, but instead she sits calmly down: "There stood, facing an open window, a comfortable, roomy armchair." The interested reader will already here discover that something is terribly wrong, since a word like comfortable is used. A newly widdowed woman would probably not look upon a chair as comfortable shortly after receiving the terri... ...t she starts dreaming about it. That shows that she has an enormous respect for her husband, and doesn't dare to do anything that breaks or is in variance with his rights, restrictions and groundrules. Today we have procedures and laws regarding women's rights when it comes to feeling trapped in a marriage and urging to end it. Getting a divorce from one's husband is about as easy for women nowadays as opening a can of beer. Nevertheless, Chopin's story tells a lot about the situation women were in a century ago, and its morale has blossomed lately following the recent liberation debate. "The Story of an Hour" has probably inspired a great deal of women to oppose their husbands if they feel like their marriage isn't quite as jolly as it ought to be.
